Skincare Over 40: My Tropic Skincare Journey for Mature Skin

As I’ve moved through my late 40s, I’ve become much more interested in skincare for mature skin and how our skin changes as we get older.

For years, my main focus has been movement, wellbeing and helping people feel better in themselves through yoga, Pilates and community. Skincare wasn’t something I knew a huge amount about. Like many people, I used products without always understanding what they were doing, what my skin actually needed or why my usual routine suddenly didn’t seem to work anymore.

As I got older, I started to notice changes.

My skin felt drier, less hydrated and needed more care than it used to. I wanted my skin to feel healthy, nourished and glowing, but I didn’t want a complicated routine with endless products.

That’s where Tropic Skincare came in.

Why I started learning about skincare over 40

I was introduced to Tropic by a friend and became curious about the products, the ingredients and how they could support ageing and mature skin.

Since becoming a Tropic Skincare Ambassador, I’ve started learning much more about the skin itself and how it changes through our 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.

I’ve been learning about:

  • the epidermis and dermis

  • collagen and how it reduces as we age

  • hydration and hyaluronic acid

  • the skin barrier

  • natural oils and sebum

  • dry and dehydrated skin

  • sensitivity and changing skin texture

  • how to create a simple skincare routine for mature skin

I’ve also been learning how to carry out simple facials and hand treatments and how skincare can become part of our wider wellbeing.

Skincare for your late 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s

One of the biggest things I’ve realised is that our skin can change enormously as we get older.

If you’re looking for skincare over 40, skincare for women over 50 or advice for mature and ageing skin, you might already have noticed some of these changes yourself.

Your skin may feel:

  • drier than it used to

  • more dehydrated

  • less plump

  • dull or tired

  • more sensitive

  • in need of extra nourishment

Hormonal changes can also affect the way our skin looks and feels.

And when there are so many cleansers, serums, moisturisers, oils and masks available, it can feel difficult to know where to start.

My aim is to help make skincare feel simple.

You don’t need a complicated routine.

You need a routine that suits your skin now.

A simple skincare routine for mature skin

When it comes to mature skincare, consistency is often more important than having dozens of products.

A simple routine may include:

Cleansing
Removing makeup, dirt and daily build-up without leaving your skin feeling stripped.

Hydrating
Supporting dry or dehydrated skin with products designed to help restore moisture.

Treating
Using a serum or targeted skincare product depending on what your skin needs.

Moisturising
Helping support the skin barrier and keeping skin feeling soft and nourished.

Protecting
Using SPF to help protect the skin from further sun damage and premature ageing.

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing much more about simple skincare routines for people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.

Why Tropic fits with Yoga La Zouch

For me, skincare feels like a natural extension of what I already do through Yoga La Zouch.

My work has always focused on helping people feel better through:

Movement • Wellness • Community

Yoga, Pilates, strength, relaxation and skincare can all form part of looking after ourselves as we get older.

This isn’t about trying to look 20 again.

It’s about supporting your skin, feeling healthy and enjoying taking care of yourself.

I believe skincare in your 40s, 50s and beyond should be about feeling comfortable and confident in the skin you have now.

Try before you buy with my Tropic borrow bags

One of the things I’m introducing is my Tropic borrow bags.

These are designed to give you the chance to try selected Tropic products before deciding whether they are right for you.

If you’re unsure which skincare products would suit your skin, this can be a lovely way to experiment without feeling pressured to buy a full routine straight away.

You can try the products, see how they feel and then decide what works best for your skin.
